Chip's lunch: July 15, 2009

Uh oh...another monochromatic lunch. It's kind of yellowy-orange. It does include fruit, but still...it's not terribly pretty. You might notice that most of Chip's fruits are eaten with peanut butter. Until recently, Chip wouldn't eat fruit without peanut butter (or at least, peanut butter made the fruit a LOT more palatable).

You see, Chip did not have the best eating habits before we got together four years ago. He worked as a mechanic in a bike shop with a bunch of guys. He worked very long hours, and he fed himself (or was fed by his boss, who would order pizza for the employees on occasion). So, every morning, he'd go to Dunkin' Donuts, where they'd have his "breakfast" ready for him: large coffee with half & half and sugar and a bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese. During the day, he would work on (and sometimes polish off) a box of Swiss Cake Rolls. For lunch, he would either microwave something (like Hot Pockets) or head up the street for pizza. And for dinner, he would microwave something else (like chicken nuggets...a ridiculously large quantity of them).

So...Chip's kind of new to the world of fruits and vegetables. He's been a good sport though, and I've had him try lots of new things (star fruit, pineapple, apples WITHOUT peanut butter, kiwi, spinach, etc). In our more recent lunches, you'll see more fruits and veggies and less peanut butter.

Annie's organic mac 'n cheese, local colby jack cheese, red pepper hummus, Double Stuf Oreos (a very special treat), whole wheat crackers, and a banana with peanut butter.
